NBA All-Star Karl Malone Joins Clear Channel Entertainment as Owner of Monster Truck Race Team

Salt Lake City, Utah, August 29 - NBA All-Star Karl Maloneand Clear Channel Entertainment's (formerly SFX) Motor Sports Division, the world's leading producer of specialized motor sports events, announced today that Malone has signed on as team owner of Karl Malone's Power Forward Monster Truck race team. As part of the agreement, Malone is lending his name, likeness and image to U.S. Hot Rod Association (USHRA) Monster Jam monster truck. The USHRA Monsert Jam, the nation's most popular monster truck racing series, is produced and promoted by Clear Channel Entertainment.

"It's not everyday that you get an opportunity to go into business with a company like Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division and the United States Hot Rod Association," said Karl Malone, power forward for the Utah Jazz. "I'm am so very excited about my long-term agreement with Clear Channel and the Monster Truck Race Team both personally and professionally. I feel the USHRA and the Monster Jam Series is a fan-friendly, family oriented and cost-effective brand of entertainment that I want to associate with for a long time. This is a dream come true."

As part of the multi-year agreement, Karl will drive and make appearances with the truck at races around the country when his schedule permits. Chad Fortune has been named as the official team driver, joined by crew member, Kelly Gordon.

The USHRA, a property of Clear Channel Entertainment, was formed in 1977 as the sanctioning body for tractor pulls. By 1987, the USHRA created the first monster-truck series - Monster Jam - with scheduled head-to-head match-ups between some of the industry's biggest names. Today, the USHRA Monster Jam Series is widely recognized as the premier monster truck organization with the USHRA Monster Jam Series serving as the most popular monster truck racing series. At events sanctioned by the USHRA, drivers compete in both freestyle and side-by-side eliminations. During the 2001 season, more than 2.5 million people filed stadiums across the country to watch Grave Digger, Goldberg, Madusa, Avenger, Gunslinger and the rest of the starts of the USHRA Monster Jam Series battle it out.
