Jazz and Larry H. Miller Charities Announce Grants for Three New Basketball Courts

SALT LAKE CITY (August 27, 2015) – The Utah Jazz and Larry H. Miller Charities announced today that a grant of $25,000 has been awarded to the cities of South Salt Lake, Farmington and Midvale to build new community basketball courts. These three courts, along with the city of Kearns, which broke ground last year, bring the total to 15 Utah Jazz community courts built or funded since 2001.

“Giving back to the community is an important part of the Utah Jazz,” said Randy Rigby, president of the Utah Jazz. “The Jazz and Larry H. Miller Charities are pleased to announce that new Jazz-branded courts will be built in these cities. Basketball is a great sport for all to participate in as part of an active lifestyle and we hope the communities will enjoy them for years to come.”

Funding for the projects is provided by Larry H. Miller Charities, a nonprofit organization representing the charitable arm of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, along with the cities where the courts will be built. Since 1995, Larry H. Miller Charities has granted more than $4.4 million to nonprofit organizations in Utah.

“When the Larry H. Miller Charities board is presented with an opportunity to improve a neighborhood or community, it is always met with great support and enthusiasm,” said Jay Francis, president of Larry H. Miller Charities. “This is a gift that will last for a long time and will give children and families added value for many years. This is what is meant when Gail Miller says, ‘the communities where we do business should be better because we are there.’”

Previous court locations include: Sugarhouse Park (Salt Lake City); Smith Fields Park (Draper); Fisher Park (Clearfield); Taylorsville Recreation Center (Salt Lake City); Redwood Recreation Center (Salt Lake City); Miller Park (American Fork); Veterans Memorial Park (West Jordan); Palmer Court Housing Development (Salt Lake City); Neptune Park (Saratoga Springs); Ron Wood Memorial Park (West Jordan); and Bonneville Park (Ogden).

The new community basketball courts are part of an ongoing commitment by the Jazz and Larry H. Miller Charities to support community outreach and health and wellness.
