Briggs Honored

Gary Briggs, Head Athletic Trainer with the Utah Jazz, has recently been named to the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame. Candidates for this most prestigious award are nominated by their peers, making this a revered honor.

Gary started his athletic training career as a student assistant at the University of Florida. After graduating from Moorehead State University (BS '74), Briggs was athletic trainer at Glenoak High School in Canton, Ohio before going to Troy State University in Troy, Alabama in 1980. Gary was the athletic trainer with the Cleveland Cavaliers for 18 seasons before joining the Jazz in September 2000. He has been recognized around the NBA as one of the league's top athletic trainers, being voted by his peers as the 1999 Athletic Trainer of the Year, along with being selected as Chairman for the National Basketball Athletic Trainers' Association for the 1993-94 and 1994-95 season. He received his NATABOC certification in 1980. Gary is a member of the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association and the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association.

The Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association (OATA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the health care needs of the physically active, and is formally recognized by the American Medical Association. Founded in 1984, the primary goal of the OATA is to ensure that athletes, at any level, receive immediate, professional, quality health care.
