July 31, 2002 --- Utah Jazz Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin O'Connor announced today that the team signed guard
Carlos Arroyo to a one-year contract. Terms of the contract were not released.
The 6-2 Puerto Rico native, spent the 2002-2003 season with the Jazz, averaging 2.8 points and 1.2 assists in 44 games. He connected on .459 percent from the field (50-109) and was 18-22 from the free throw line (.818%).
Arroyo scored a career-high 16 points at Golden State on April 8, 2003, hitting a career-best 6-10 field goal attempts and had 12 points in the season finale at Sacramento on April 16, 2003.
He spent the 2001-02 season with the Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets, averaging a combined 3.0 points and 1.9 assists in 10.0 minutes in 37 games, but scored 4.1 points and 2.5 assists with the Nuggets in 20 games.
He helped lead Puerto Rico to a seventh place finish in the 2002 World Championships, where is averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 assists in eight games and will participate in the 2003 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament with the host Puerto Rican team in August.
A four-year letterman at Florida International University, Arroyo scored 16.0 points and 4.6 in 100 career games and was a two-time All-Sun Belt selection. As a senior he averaged 21.2 points, 17th highest scoring in the nation and 4.0 assists. He set a school record with 39 points against North Texas.
