Mehmet Okur Beats Jazz 3-Pointer Record

On March 13, 2007, Utah Jazz All-Star center Mehmet Okur passed Bryon Russell as the most prolific single season 3-point shooter in franchise history. The 6-11, 263-pound native of Turkey has connected for 109 treys, surpassing Bryon Russell's 108 3-point performance during the 1996-97 season.

Now in his fifth NBA season and third with the Jazz, Okur has appeared in 61 Jazz games (all starts) and is averaging a career-high 18.4 points, along with 7.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Okur ranks second on the Jazz in both scoring and rebounding and has posted 16 double-doubles on the season.

Okur has been one of the most clutch players in the NBA this season, hitting 30 game-tying or leading field goals in the fourth quarter or overtime, including four-game winning shots in the final 40 seconds of games. His 109 made 3-pointers are the most in the NBA for a player 6-11 or taller this season, and rank 10th in NBA history. Okur was selected to his first All-Star Game in 2007.

Here’s a look at Okur’s record breaking season (as of Mar. 13, 2007):
