Utah Jazz Vice President of Basketball Operations, Kevin O'Connor, announced today that the team has signed guard
Rusty LaRue to a contract for the remainder of the 2001-02 season. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
LaRue has played in 10 games for the Jazz and is averaging 6.2 points and 17.6 minutes per game. The Jazz signed LaRue to a 10-day contract on January 29 after placing John Crotty on the injured list and to a second 10-day contract on February 11. LaRue played in six of the Jazz eight 2001 preseason games averaging 7.3 points per game.
He signed with the Asheville Altitude of the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) and played in 26 games, where he averaged 12.0 points, shooting .442 percent from the field (.430 from three-point range) and .904 from the line.
LaRue spent portions of three season with the Chicago Bulls (1997-2000), including being a member of the 1998 World Championship team that defeated the Utah Jazz.
