Brilliant. The Jazz had an opportunity to add a shooting guard that could
help on both ends of the floor. He's only going to get better, and if
his jumper ever catches up to the rest of his game, this kid could be
a future All-Star. Thus far, this is the best value pick made.

This looks like a great draft for the Jazz. Brewer gives them a terrific
athlete to play on the wing with Andrei Kirilenko and run the break with
Deron Williams. And it's interesting that they brought in Williams' running
mate from Illinois in Brown — giving them more quickness. And finally,
they took a terror on the boards in Millsap, the only player in NCAA history
to lead Division I in rebounding three consecutive seasons — and,
of course, from Karl Malone's alma mater.

GM Kevin O'Connor has taken a lot of heat for his draft picks this decade.
He was criticized for passing on Chris Paul for Deron Williams last year,
and the rest of his first-round picks are no longer with the team.
He redeemed himself on Wednesday.
Ronnie Brewer was a steal at No. 14. He was ranked No. 8 on our big board
and fits a need perfectly for Utah. They need a two guard who can create
his own shot and defend multiple positions and Brewer should be great,
right away.
The Jazz also did well in the
second round. Dee Brown is the perfect change-of-pace backup for Williams.
He's a natural leader and a fearless competitor, and he could end up playing
an Earl Boykins role for the Jazz.
Paul Millsap has been
called a poor man's Karl Malone. If the Jazz trade Carlos Boozer this
summer, which seems likely, he'll fill a void as a tough rebounding specialist
who can score in the paint.

After J.J. Redick and Saer Sene were off the board at 14, the Jazz took
the best shooting guard available - who also happened to be the best player
available - in Ronnie Brewer. Brewer is a consistent scorer who can also
be a floor general and will fit very well alongside Deron Williams, who
often likes to play off the ball if given the opportunity.
Dee Brown and Paul
Millsap are stupendous second round pickups. Brown will provide a wealth
of energy off the bench and Millsap is a beast on the boards who may have
been a first round calibre talent.

Ronnie Brewer's dad, Ron Brewer, carved out a nice pro career, and the
same is expected of his son, especially with Jazz coach Jerry Sloan as
his new teacher. Second-rounders Dee Brown and Paul Millsap could contribute
this season.
