Nu Skin Jazz Dancers to Host Dance Clinic for Participants of the 2011 Cathay Girls Cheerleaders Competition

2011 Youth Madness TaiwanTAIPEI, TAIWAN (July 27, 2011) – The Nu Skin Jazz Dancers will arrive in Taiwan at the special invitation of Cathay Financial Holdings and the NBA to conduct a dance clinic for the four finalist teams of the 2011 Cathay Girls cheerleader competition. The two-day clinic, scheduled for July 29 and 30, will provide a unique opportunity for the finalists to learn the finer aspects of being a successful dancer from the professionals.

The Nu Skin Jazz Dancers will provide intensive coaching on dance technique, dance routine, fitness and styling to the participants, as they prepare for the upcoming final competition of the 2011 Cathay Girls Cheerleaders Competition, scheduled for August 21 at the Taiwan University.

The four finalist teams namely: Charming Lady, Dance Spirit, IP Girls and Birds of Paradise outperformed more than 100 dance teams to secure a coveted place in the Finals.

The six select members of the Nu Skin Jazz Dancers, Sydney, Tasha, Chenelle, Chelsea, Krissy and Nicole, have over six decades of combined dance experience.  Chelsea said, “I’m so excited to be in Taiwan to share our dance know-how and experiences with the young dancers. And I believe in return we will also learn a lot from them about the local dance culture in Taiwan.”

Tian Ah Qun, a member of Charming Lady said, “We are absolutely thrilled to have a once in a life time opportunity to train and interact with an NBA dance team. We’re really looking forward to the clinic to learn from the best. We are simply bursting with anticipation, and I know we have a million questions to ask them.”

The 2011 Cathay NBA Youth Madness taking place from April 28 to August 21, is a 5-on-5, single-elimination tournament opened to male students age 24 and under from 32 designated colleges. In the preliminary round 8 teams from each college will compete to represent their colleges in the regional City Tournament. The 16 teams from the North region advanced to the City Tournament which was held June 4-5 at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, while the 16 teams from the South region advanced to the City Tournament held June 17-19 at the National Kaohsiung Normal University. The top two teams from the North and South regions advanced to the City Championship held August 21 at the National Taiwan University.

The colleges of the winning teams of the City Championship, which includes the Champion, the runner-up, and third place winner will be awarded prize winnings. The winners of the Most Valuable Player Award and Sportsmanship Award will each receive an all-expense paid trip to the United States to visit the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Concurrently, the 2011 Cathay Girls cheerleader competition will feature 128 dance teams of students from colleges across the island, 64 each from the north and south region of Taiwan. The colleges of the winning teams of the City Championship, which includes the Champion, the runner-up, and third place winner will be awarded prize winnings. The winners of the Best Performer Award and High Spirit Award will each receive an all-expense paid trip to visit the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
