With a comfortable 3-0 series lead over the Nuggets, the Jazz looked to close out the series with a sweep in Denver. It wasn’t too be as the #8-seed Nuggets led by their defensive stopper Dikembe Mutombo and his six blocks stayed alive and beat the #5-seed Jazz 83-82. The Nuggets became the first team in over forty years to force a game seven after losing the first three games of the series. The Jazz won the series but lost to eventual champion Houston in the conference finals in five games
