Jazz, Mavs Put Winning Streaks on the Line Tonight

The Utah Jazz will take their two-game winning streak on the road when they play the Dallas Mavericks tonight.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. MT.

Led (as always) by All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, the Mavericks have won five straight and currently sit in third place in the Western Conference standings with a record of 8-4.

Nowitzki leads the team in scoring at 18.5 points in 28.6 minutes per game, and his shooting percentages (52.1 percent from the field, 50.0 percent on 3-pointers, 91.2 percent from the line) are predictably excellent.

He’s joined this season by former Jazz players Wesley Matthews and Deron Williams, who are now starting for Dallas. Matthews suffered a ruptured Achilles late last season when he was playing for Portland, but he’s returned to the court much faster than many anticipated—and he’s quickly returning to form. Matthews is averaging 14.5 points, 1.5 steals, and 2.3 3-pointers in 31.3 minutes over his last four games.

Williams leads the team in assists (5.4) and steals (1.5), and ranks second in points (13.5) per game.

Chandler Parsons is still seeing limited playing time after offseason knee surgery, while Zaza Pachulia, Dwight Powell, Raymond Felton, J.J. Barea and Charlie Villanueva round out Dallas’ rotation.

The Jazz are coming off last-minute wins over two of the Eastern Conference’s best teams—Atlanta (on the road) and Toronto (at home).

Derrick Favors (16.0 ppg), Alec Burks (15.9 ppg) and Gordon Hayward (15.8 ppg) lead the Jazz in scoring, while Favors ranks fifth in the NBA with 2.1 steals per game.

Rudy Gobert is also highly ranked in two categories—he’s second in the league in blocks (3.2) and fifth in rebounds (11.0) per game.

The game will be broadcast on ROOT SPORTS (Xfinity—693, DirecTV—683.1, Dish—453, Hopper—412-41). TV coverage begins at 6 p.m. MT.
