When fans see Utah Jazz forward Jarron Collins play, they don't see a trash-talking, flamboyant shooting guard who busts threes on a whim. That is why it is odd that the soft spoken post-man, chose his No. 31 jersey after ex-NBA great, Reggie Miller.
"Since I was a kid growing up in Los Angeles, I'd hate to say it but Reggie Miller had my No. 31 at UCLA," said the Southern California native, Collins.
Collins, whose twin-brother, Jason Collins, plays for the New Jersey Nets, first wore the number as a third grader and has never changed it. He didn't change it at Harvard Westlake High School in California. He didn't change it at Stanford, and he has not changed it as member of the Jazz.
Since his brother has changed his number multiple times throughout his career, the question of whether Jarron would ever give up his beloved No. 31 has been raised.
"If a veteran has the number, then I'll respect that," said Collins, who is in his fifth year in the league and with the Jazz. "But my years in the league are going up now, so I think I'd bump somebody if I had the number."
