Jazz sponsors community food drive with Utah Food Bank and Best Buddies
SALT LAKE CITY (October 8, 2009) – In conjunction with the NBA Cares Week of Service, Utah Jazz players and coaching staff will sponsor a community food drive on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, from 1-3 p.m. at Utah Food Bank. The team will be joined that day by volunteers from the University of Utah chapter of Best Buddies Utah, and KFAN 1320 AM will broadcast live from the event.
Jazz players will provide volunteer service and greet members of the public who drop off donated food items at the food bank’s new headquarters located at 3150 South 900 West, Salt Lake City. Individuals contributing one bag or more during the designated time frame will receive one complimentary ticket to the Utah Jazz preseason game on October 15, while supplies last.
As part of the NBA Cares Week of Service, teams across the league are participating in a variety of volunteer efforts that will benefit local communities. Additional Jazz-related activities will include an in-house food drive sponsored by team employees on Tuesday, October 13. On Thursday, October 15, the Jazz will also host Best Buddies food-drive participants at the Utah vs. Portland preseason game, where they will attend team warm-ups and be addressed by Jazz assistant coach, Scott Layden, prior to tipoff.
Best Buddies enhances the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-on-one friendships with nondisabled peers. Utah Food Bank has assisted low-income individuals and families in Utah since 1904.
