Utah Jazz and Deseret News Promote Youth Safety

The Utah Jazz is collaborating with the Deseret News to create an educational news supplement that talks to youth about safety.  Copies of the supplement will be distributed to Deseret Morning News and Salt Lake Tribune subscribers and will also be provided to Utah teachers and students upon request.

The colorful news insert discusses safety in sports, recreation, transportation and computer activities, and provides youth with tools to help them safely respond to peer pressure and bullying.  Assignments that teachers can use in the classroom are accompanied by an eye-catching layout that includes photos of Jazz players.  Quotes from various team members are incorporated to help motivate students’ interest in the topic. 

For over 20 years the Utah Jazz has collaborated with the Deseret News on educational projects developed by the publication’s Newspapers in Education (NIE) department.  NIE programs allow educators to utilize the Deseret News by providing classroom resources such as monthly educational sections, a library of teacher guides, serialized stories and activities for grades K-12.
