Jazz Awards Larry H. Miller Youth Scholarships at NAACP Luncheon

The Utah Jazz, in conjunction with the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), presented Larry H. Miller Youth Scholarships to Karmay Gorley and Joi Logan at a luncheon held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The awards were presented by Marc Amicone, vice president/general manager of the Salt Lake Bees, and Jeanetta Williams, president of the NAACP Salt Lake Branch. Funding for the college scholarships was provided by Larry H. Miller Charities.

Karmay Gorley attends Westminster College, where she is pursuing a major in psychology and a minor in business. She is president of the school’s African-American Intellectual Union and has been highly involved in organizing cultural awareness events and providing community service. She currently tutors youth at Granite Park Junior High School.

Joi Logan is majoring in biology at Westminster College. She is co-founder and past president of the African-American Intellectual Union and is a collegiate member of the American Association of University Women. She is involved in student government and has been active in community service. Currently she enjoys volunteering with AmeriCorps.

The Utah Jazz has presented youth scholarships at the NAACP Salt Lake Branch’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day luncheon for the past 13 years. Larry H. Miller Charities focuses its contributions on nonprofit organizations and programs that benefit youth in the areas of health and education.
