Centro de la Familia de Utah Assisted by Friends of the Utah Jazz
As part of its community outreach efforts, the Utah Jazz has collaborated with Friends of the Utah Jazz to aid nonprofit charitable organizations in the local community. Throughout the season, each time Jazz players log an assist $20 will be donated to a specific charity on a monthly basis.
During December, Jazz players logged 389 assists, generating $7,780 for Centro de la Familia de Utah. At a Jazz home game in January, Kevin O’Connor, general manager of the Jazz, presented a donation check to Gonzalo Palza, the nonprofit group’s chief executive officer.
Founded over 30 years ago, Centro de la Familia de Utah is an organization dedicated to helping the Latino community in both rural and urban areas of Utah. The agency provides a variety of outreach programs that support Spanish-speaking families in the areas of health, education and social services.
Throughout the 2009-10 Jazz season, one community agency per month will be selected as a recipient of a Friends of the Utah Jazz donation. During January, the team is raising money for Salt Lake Donated Dental Services, a group that provides oral health care to Utahns in need.
