Jazz Presents Larry H. Miller Youth Scholarship at NAACP Luncheon

The Utah Jazz, in conjunction with the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), recently presented college student Quinci Hambrick with the Larry H. Miller Youth Scholarship.  The presentation was made during an annual NAACP Martin Luther King Day luncheon held in mid January.  On hand to present the award were Jay Francis, executive vice president of operations for the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, and Jeanetta Williams, president of the NAACP Salt Lake Branch.  Funding for the $2,000 scholarship was provided by Larry H. Miller Charities.

Quinci, the daughter of Orville and Kelly Meade, enjoys exercising, reading and watching movies.  She attended Hunter High School and was a member of the basketball team her sophomore year.  As a junior and senior, she played softball and tied the state record for number of homeruns in a single game.  She spent three years working as a lifeguard at the Sorenson Multi-Cultural Center.

After graduating from Hunter High School in 2006, Hambrick attended Salt Lake Community College for 18 months before transferring to Southern Utah University.  She currently maintains a 3.2 grade point average.  Hambrick values education and plans on becoming a teacher in the public schools.

The Utah Jazz has presented youth scholarships at the NAACP Salt Lake Branch’s Martin Luther King Day luncheon for the past 11 years.  Larry H. Miller Charities focuses its contributions on nonprofit organizations and programs that benefit youth in the areas of health and education.
