Antoine Carr and Mehmet Okur to Make Jazz Alumni Appearances at Utah Jazz Summer League

SALT LAKE CITY (July 3, 2015) – The Utah Jazz announced today that Jazz alumni Antoine Carr and Mehmet Okur will take part in 2015 Utah Jazz Summer League activities, hosting youth clinics, signing autographs and interacting with fans throughout the four days of play.

The former Jazzmen will be signing complimentary autographs on the concourse at EnergySolutions Arena outside of Fanzz, located by Portal E, on Mon., July 6 and Tues., July 7 during Utah Jazz Summer League play. Game tickets are required for arena entry. The schedule of autograph signings is as follows:

Mon., July 6: Mehmet Okur (5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.), Antoine Carr (6:15 – 7 p.m.)

Tues., July 7:  Antoine Carr (5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.), Mehmet Okur (6:15 p.m. – 7 p.m.)

Okur, Carr and Junior Jazz staff will also host three youth basketball clinics July 6, 7 and 9 at locations around Salt Lake County, using the outdoor community basketball courts built in collaboration between the Utah Jazz, Larry H. Miller Charities and the each city. The attendees will learn fundamental basketball drills, including shooting, passing and dribbling.

Carr, also known by Jazz fans as “The Big Dog,” spent four seasons in Utah, appearing in 306 games and averaging 7.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per game. In addition, he appeared in 63 playoff games with Utah and was a key factor in two Jazz NBA Finals runs in 1997 and 1998. His most memorable performance came in Game 5 of the 1998 NBA Finals when he scored 12 points on a perfect five-for-five from the field in the second half, knocking down two clutch free throws with 10.4 seconds remaining to force a Game 6 against the Bulls.

Okur, a 2007 NBA All-Star, averaged 15.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 474 career games during his seven seasons with the Jazz from 2004-2011, also appearing in 32 playoff games over four appearances including the 2007 Western Conference Finals.  Nicknamed “The Money Man” for his clutch long-range shooting, the native of Turkey still ranks fourth on the franchise’s all-time list for three-pointers made (517), fifth for three-pointers attempted (1,358), ninth in scoring (7,255) and blocked shots (3,599) and 10th in rebounding. (346).
