Kristaps Porzingis - First 50 Games
Latvian wunderkid Kristaps Porzingis just completed his 50th game in the NBA. Already he’s been compared to some of the league’s greats, due to his size and agility. Let’s take a look at how Porzingis’ stats match up to other rookie big men in their first fifty games.
These triangular radar charts break out points, rebounds and blocks into three separate axises. The blue triangle that connects them gives a sense of how each player performed overall within these metrics.
It’s fun to see how two of the all-time greats, Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Garnett, both had slow starts off the blocks. Tim Duncan however was a force to be reckoned with from the moment he stepped onto the pro courts.
It is clear that early performance doesn’t definitively reflect long-term success. Porzingis is off to a fantastic start but we’ll have to wait a few more years before determining his level of superstardom in NBA history.
