The Charlotte Bobcats and sideline reporter Stephanie Ready hosted Hoops and Heels, an event focused on educating women on basketball, on February 23 at Time Warner Cable Arena®. During Hoops and Heels, women had the opportunity to sit in on a skills session taught by Ready and go courtside during pregame warmups and meet players, such as Ramon Sessions. In addition, the ladies got to watch the Bobcats take on the Nuggets from a luxury suite.

Throughout the skills session, Ready taught the ladies all the different basketball rules, calls, positions and concepts. Throughout the session, she handed out prizes such as basketball rulebooks and spa packages. Inside the suite, the ladies received a gift basket full of Bobcats gear.

“I thought there was a need because I would get a lot of questions from some ladies about the game and from their partners – their husbands or their boyfriends – from being annoyed with all the questions or from the disinterest,” said Ready. “So I thought this would be a great opportunity to teach some ladies, to bring them together and show them what it is all about.”

Ready also talked about the importance of the women bringing what they learned at Hoops and Heels and their love for sports back into their home life. She shared the many advantages to girls being involved in sports at a young age and stressed all the things that girls learn while playing sports, such as teamwork, reliability and hard work.

Ready says that Hoops and Heels is definitely an event that she would like to host more often.

“We had a great showing of support from some ladies in the Carolinas that wanted to learn more about basketball. I want to try to turn it into an annual event at the very least.”
