Walker Player Profile
The NBA announced on February 8 that Charlotte Bobcats guard Kemba Walker has been selected to play in the 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, February 24, during NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando.
Walker, who is averaging 12.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 28.5 minutes this season, is currently ranked second among NBA rookies in scoring and fourth in assists. Walker is one of only five NBA players and the only rookie to post a triple-double this season after recording 20 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against Washington on Jan. 28.
Walker is joined by fellow first-year players Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson (Cleveland), Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams (Minnesota), MarShon Brooks (New Jersey), Brandon Knight (Detroit), Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio) and Markieff Morris (Phoenix).
Defending Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin of the L.A. Clippers headlines the sophomore class, which includes DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento), Landry Fields (New York), Paul George (Indiana), Gordon Hayward (Utah), Greg Monroe (Detroit), Tiago Splitter (San Antonio), Evan Turner (Philadelphia) and John Wall (Washington).
The BBVA Rising Stars Challenge will introduce an exciting new format to a game that has historically featured NBA rookies facing off against sophomores. For the first time, rookies and sophomores will be mixed together on teams.
TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal will serve as the general managers of two opposing teams, each with nine-man rosters, consisting of NBA rookies and sophomores drafted from a pool that was selected by the NBA’s assistant coaches. Also, TNT’s Kenny Smith will serve as the honorary Commissioner and Ernie Johnson will host the live BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Draft on Thursday, Feb. 16, on NBA TV at 7 p.m. ET.
The BBVA Rising Stars Challenge will be televised live nationally at 9 p.m. ET on TNT and ESPN Radio, while NBA.com will make live audio available to fans in multiple languages.
