Brown Career-High in Loss to Heat
By Mark Kern
April 13, 2012
In the season’s second game, the Bobcats gave the Miami Heat all they wanted until Dwyane Wade hit a shot in the final seconds to give the Heat the 97-96 victory… On Friday, there would be no such drama as the Heat (41-17) were in control from the beginning en route to a 105-82 victory over the Bobcats (7-51) at American Airlines Arena.

Miami was able to get an early lead and make it tough for the Bobcats to get into the game. The Heat took a 33-19 advantage after the first quarter… A 9-2 Bobcats run early in the second period cut the Heat lead to 39-32, but Miami ended the half on a 19-7 run to take a comfortable 58-39 lead at the break… The second half the Heat were able to get the margin to as much as 27 and hold the Bobcats off the rest of the game.

The Heat had their way down low, outscoring the Bobcats in the paint 70-26… Miami hit 51.8 percent (44 of 85) of their shots, while the Bobcats were only able to connect on 44.6 percent (33 of 74)… Charlotte battled the Heat on the glass before being outrebounded 42-36… Miami had a strong night from the line, hitting 88.2 percent (15 of 17)… The Heat outscored the Bobcats 20-2 in the fast break, partially due to Charlotte’s 20 turnovers and Miami’s eight steals.

Derrick Brown continues to play well as a starter. Brown scored a career-high 21 points and tied a career high with nine rebounds.

Gerald Henderson had a solid floor game, scoring 14 points while also grabbing four rebounds.

LeBron James controlled the pace of the game, finishing with 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

"He [Derrick Brown] really played tough tonight. I thought he did the best job of anyone I have seen by trying to guard LeBron James, which is very difficult, but he did a good job. He scored twenty-one points tonight, got some rebounds, and just really upped the tempo of his game.""
- Bobcats Head Coach Paul Silas on Derrick Brown

"I’m just playing hard. You don’t always get the opportunity in the NBA. You need to be ready. I came off the bench the whole year. I finally got some minutes. You have to take advantage of that. That’s what the league is about, opportunities and just playing hard.""
- Bobcats forward Derrick Brown on his individual play

"We actually started the game pretty well. It’s tough to keep up with a team that’s going to continue to score and they’re going to play defense the whole game. You really have to try and play defense as hard as you can, but you have to continue to score."
- Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson on the game

Kemba Walker (11) and Bismack Biyombo (10) joined Brown and Henderson with double-figure points… Corey Maggette (Achilles), DeSagana Diop (Achilles) and Tyrus Thomas (knee) were all unable to play due to injury, while DJ White left the game after taking an elbow to the head during the second quarter.

The Bobcats will head back home as they host Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics on Sunday. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Catch all the action on SportSouth and listen to us on WFNZ. Also, don’t forget to join the chat at
