Hornets Acquire Jacobsen, Vroman and Lampe From Suns

New Orleans - The Hornets have acquired guard/forward Casey Jacobsen, forward/center Maciej Lampe and forward/center Jackson Vroman from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for guard Jim Jackson and a 2005 second round draft pick.

“This trade made sense because we got three talented players in Casey, Maciej and Jackson who can contribute and fill roles for us in exchange for a player who would have never seen the floor,” said Hornets General Manager Allan Bristow.  “It was obvious that Jim Jackson was not going to play for us, so now we can move forward and focus on the remainder of the season with three new young and exciting players.”

Jacobsen had appeared in all 40 games for Phoenix this season, averaging 5.3 points and 1.7 rebounds.  The 6-6 product of Stanford is in his third season after being selected by the Suns with 22nd overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft.  Jacobsen finished the 2003-04 season ranked ninth in the NBA in three-point percentage (75-180, .417).

Lampe (whose name is pronounced ma-chick lam-PAY) had averaged 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 16 games with the Suns this season.  The 6-11 native of Poland was originally selected by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft (30th overall), but was traded to Phoenix last season in the seven-player deal that sent Stephon Marbury to New York.

Vroman was originally selected by the Chicago Bulls in the second round (31st overall) of the 2004 NBA Draft, but was traded to Phoenix along with a future first round pick and cash in exchange for Luol Deng on the night of the draft.  The 6-10 product of Iowa State had averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 10 games with the Suns.

Jackson was acquired from Houston along with Bostjan Nachbar in exchange for David Wesley on December 27.  He was suspended indefinitely on December 29 for failing to report to the team and has missed the last 11 games while serving the suspension.  The 2005 second round draft choice that the Hornets sent to Phoenix in today’s trade originally belonged to Dallas (the Hornets acquired the pick and Dan Dickau from Dallas on December 3 in exchange for Darrell Armstrong).

In order to make room on the roster for Jacobsen, Lampe and Vroman, the Hornets waived guard Junior Harrington and forward Matt Freije.  Harrington, who was signed as a free agent on September 30, averaged 6.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 23 games with the Hornets.  Freije, who was signed as a free agent on November 19, averaged 4.0 points and 2.7 in 23 games with the Hornets.
