Hornets Sign Sean Rooks

NEW ORLEANS, July 21 --The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have signed free agent forward/center Sean Rooks. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Rooks
Rooks, an 11-year NBA veteran, holds career averages of 6.5 ppg and 4.0 rpg while shooting 46.3 percent from the field in 694 NBA games. The 6-10, 260-pound forward/center has played the last three seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 4.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 70 games with the Clippers in 2002-03.

“An accomplished big man like Sean Rooks is a huge addition for us,” said Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Bob Bass. “He’ll not only be able to contribute on the court, he’ll be a great mentor to our younger players and a tremendous veteran presence in the locker room.”

Rooks was originally a second round pick (30th overall) by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1992 NBA Draft. He played two seasons with the Mavericks, averaging 12.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in 119 games before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rooks spent a season and a half in Minnesota before being traded to Atlanta midway through the 1995-96 campaign. Following his time in Atlanta, Rooks signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent two seasons. He returned to Dallas for the 1999-00 season before joining the Clippers in 2000.
