Inside the Locker Room: April 26, 2003
Head Coach Paul Silas
The first half we didn’t get much production from our bench. In the second, they clicked. Kenny (Anderson), Jerome (Moiso), Stacey (Augmon) and (Robert) Tractor (Traylor). That’s what turned the whole game around. This team’s amazing. They always come through. We were awfully close in Philly. Baron Davis carried us tonight. It was reminiscent of him against Orlando (in the playoffs last year). The boards were the key, and then there was our defense. (on the Hornets defense) We really got up in them in the second half. Baron played (Allen) Iverson in the second half and did a credible job. Stacey Augmon was all over the court. Kenny made a couple of steals. Jerome handled the middle and Tractor got some rebounds. (on the New Orleans crowd) I simply can’t say enough about the people in the stands. They were cheering us on. That’s what we have to have. (on Baron Davis' performance) I played Baron (Davis) ore minutes than I wanted to. But, it was a do-or-die game. Baron had to lead the charge. Moiso is coming on. This is like his rookie year even though it’s his third year. His confidence is coming on. He’s really getting ready to play. He’s preparing.
Guard Baron Davis
It’s all right. It’s a little sore, swollen up a little bit. The doctor said we’ll take care of that with some treatment. I was about 70-75 percent at the start. There’s still some things I can’t do. I can’t do a lot of quick moves. (on the team's effort) Everybody had to come in and give 110 percent tonight to win, and that’s what we did. The crowd pushed us. Everybody was focused. (on the crowd) When they got there, they were rowdy. That pumped us up. That pushed us over. You saw us pick up our defense and feed off the crowd, especially in the second half. (on his mindset coming into the game) I wanted to attack, attack, attack tonight. I wanted to get my teammates in an attack mode. I wanted to get everybody touches. We needed everybody to score. (on Jerome Moiso) He came in with a lot of energy. As tall and as athletic as he is, he can really help us in this series.
Forward P.J. Brown
Moiso’s a guy that plays real hard in practice. You don’t get to see him like we do. They did tonight. The way he blocks my shot with a 45-inch vertical, he’s just a tough guy to score over. When he gets into it and gets focused, he’s a tough guy to stop. I’m just glad we have him on our team. (on his performance) Overall, I’m still disappointed. I think there’s some things I can still improve on. I go in and look the film and decipher and good and decipher the bad and be ready for Monday night. (on the crowd) The crowd was tremendous. That’s what home court is all about. That’s what you fight for in the regular season and try to get when you’re in the playoffs. For the first time in New Orleans history, I thought they were tremendous.
Forward Jerome Moiso
We had problems the first two games, controlling the boards. That was one of our focuses, along with turnovers. BD (Davis) running the show, everybody was confident and in a good groove. (on Mashburn calling him a $100 million player) We spoke about that when Mashburn was hurt last year. We did talk about that and he did say that a few times. He just told me to grab the opportunity and make it happen. (on 4th quarter) I got on the weak side and nobody paid attention to me a few times. I got in a good groove after the two tips. It just came from that. |
