Good evening, Hornets fans. This is Hornet Henry, fan blogger for Hornets.com. Well folks, I don’t know what to do with myself. There are no Hornets games scheduled for the next five days. Withdrawal is already setting in.
How am I going to make it from now until Tuesday with no sweet Chris Paul dishes, no Tyson Chandler alley oop dunks, no swished jumpers by D West and no thrilling Hornets victories?
But I guess it could be worse. I could be a Boston Celtics fan right now. Those guys are probably happy that they DON’T have to watch any games for the next few days. Eighteen/Nineteen straight losses, fellas? What in the name of Larry Bird is going on up there? Even during the bleak 18 and 64 campaign the Hornets experienced in 2004-05, they never lost more than 11 games in a row! (I’m still undergoing therapy as a result of that season, by the way.)
What has happened to the league’s most storied franchise? Is this a result of the Celtics’ decision to break from their proud tradition and introduce not one, but TWO alternate road jerseys? Was it because after years of looking down on the rest of the league and saying they’d never even consider it, this season the Celtics became the last NBA club to start a dance team.
Speaking of dance teams, Hornet Henry wants to wish the best of luck to Honeybee Karin during her visit to Las Vegas this week for All-Star festivities. I read on Hornets.com that she had a class of high school students voting for her, and that helped Karin make it to the All-Star Game. For the record, Hornet Henry only cast 614 votes for Karin over a two-week period… but I promise to do better in 2008. Congratulations young lady and have a great time representing the Hornets in Vegas!
Karin and Chris Paul are the two members of the Hornets organization who were picked to participate in Sin City this weekend. CP3 will be a member of the Sophomores team in the Rookie Challenge and partake in the Skills Competition, my favorite All-Star weekend event. For an old-school fundamentals guy like myself, that contest usually brings tears to my eyes. There is nothing more beautiful than a textbook chest pass, like they used to do it back in the old days.
Before I sign off, I’d like to take a peek into the Hornet Henry mailbag.
A Canadian Hornets fan, Roger Croy, wrote in to ask:
“What do the Hornets have as assets in the 2007 NBA draft? Do they still have their own draft picks, and have they secured any others through past dealings?”
Well Roger, I’ve been thinking a lot less about the draft lately – but that’s a good thing, because it means the Hornets have been winning some ballgames. To answer your question, the Hornets still have their first- and second-round choices in each of the next two seasons, but no additional picks. Thanks for the e-mail.
Remember, you can ask Hornet Henry a question about the Hornets by sending an e-mail to hornethenry@hornets.com. I’ll talk to you again next week. Go Hornets!
