FIRST ROUND DRAFT NOTES:
Last year, the Hornets selected David West of
Xavier with the 18th overall pick....West averaged 3.8 points and 4.2
minutes in 71 games in his rookie campaign…the Hornets have made 14
first round selections in the NBA Draft in the team’s history....12 of the
Hornets’ 14 first round draft selections have played at least one
season for the Hornets....in the Hornets’ first NBA Draft in 1988, Rex
Chapman was selected from the University of Kentucky with the eighth
overall pick....Kentucky has been the school of choice for the Hornets
three times in the first round of the draft – the most of any
school....the highest the Hornets have ever selected in the first round
was the first overall pick (Larry Johnson in 1991), while the lowest
they have ever selected was the 22nd pick (George Zidek in 1995).
SECOND ROUND DRAFT NOTES:
The Hornets will pick 44th in the 2004
Draft, marking the first time they have picked in the second round in
consecutive years since the 1998 and 1999 seasons (prior to that, it
had not happened since the 1991 and 1992 seasons)....the Hornets have made
10 second round selections in their history, and all but three of those
picks have played at least one season for the Hornets (James Lang,
Dyron Nix and Andrew Betts never played)....the highest the Hornets have
ever selected in the second round was the 28th pick (Kevin Lynch in
1991), while the lowest they have ever selected was the 50th pick
(Andrew Betts in 1998).

MISCELLANEOUS DRAFT NOTES:
Hornets Executive VP of Basketball
Operations Bob Bass, who is retiring following the 2004 draft after 54
consecutive seasons in basketball, has made many selections in his
illustrious NBA career--some of his more notable picks include David
Robinson, Baron Davis, Sean Elliot, Alvin Robertson, Jamaal Magloire
and John Paxson…20 of the Hornets’ 25 all-time draft selections have
appeared in regular season games for the team....only Jeff Moore (1988,
never made the Hornets roster), Dyron Nix (1989, immediately traded to
the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Stuart Gray), Greg Graham (1993,
traded to the 76ers on 9/3/93), Kobe Bryant (1996, traded to the Lakers
for Vlade Divac on 7/11/99 in a pre-arranged deal), Andrew Betts (1998,
never made the Hornets roster) and James Lang (2003, only appeared on
the Injured List, never on the active roster) have not appeared in a
Hornets regular season game…there have been two instances in Hornets
history when the team made no selections in either the first or second
round of the draft (1997 and 2002)…their 1997 first round pick was
originally traded to Milwaukee along with Mike Gminski for Frank
Brickowski in 1994, but was traded again by Milwaukee to Portland and
again from Portland to Minnesota…their 1997 second round pick was also
traded in 1994 to Washington (along with their second round pick in
1996) for Michael Adams....their 2002 first round pick was traded to
Washington for Courtney Alexander while their 2002 second round pick
was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2000 in exchange for Dale
Ellis...the Hornets have held both the 18th and 44th picks on one other
occasion each…they used the 18th overall selection in the 2003 Draft to
pick David West while they chose Malik Rose with the 44th overall
selection in the 1996 Draft.
