MISCELLANEOUS DRAFT NOTES:
Hornets Executive VP of Basketball Operations Bob Bass, who is retiring following the 2004 draft after 54 consecutive seasons in basketball, has made many selections in his illustrious NBA career--some of his more notable picks include David Robinson, Baron Davis, Sean Elliot, Alvin Robertson, Jamaal Magloire and John Paxson…20 of the Hornets’ 25 all-time draft selections have appeared in regular season games for the team....only Jeff Moore (1988, never made the Hornets roster), Dyron Nix (1989, immediately traded to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Stuart Gray), Greg Graham (1993, traded to the 76ers on 9/3/93), Kobe Bryant (1996, traded to the Lakers for Vlade Divac on 7/11/99 in a pre-arranged deal), Andrew Betts (1998, never made the Hornets roster) and James Lang (2003, only appeared on the Injured List, never on the active roster) have not appeared in a Hornets regular season game…there have been two instances in Hornets history when the team made no selections in either the first or second round of the draft (1997 and 2002)…their 1997 first round pick was originally traded to Milwaukee along with Mike Gminski for Frank Brickowski in 1994, but was traded again by Milwaukee to Portland and again from Portland to Minnesota…their 1997 second round pick was also traded in 1994 to Washington (along with their second round pick in 1996) for Michael Adams....their 2002 first round pick was traded to Washington for Courtney Alexander while their 2002 second round pick was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2000 in exchange for Dale Ellis...the Hornets have held both the 18th and 44th picks on one other occasion each…they used the 18th overall selection in the 2003 Draft to pick David West while they chose Malik Rose with the 44th overall selection in the 1996 Draft.
