Bobcats Sports & Entertainment and Lowe’s today announced a new grant program that will award $50,000 annually for education-related refurbishment projects in Mecklenburg County. Grants will fund high-need projects at public schools and nonprofit education programs in the Charlotte area.
“Education remains a key pillar of our community outreach,” said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment Vice President of Community Relations Kim Henderson. “We are happy to collaborate with our partners at Lowe’s to continue to emphasize the value of education and its role in future success.”
The grant program is part of a renewed partnership between Bobcats Sports & Entertainment and Lowe’s, a founding partner of the organization. The Official Home Improvement Retailer of the Bobcats, Lowe’s is the presenting sponsor for all elements and events in the education pillar of the Cats Care initiative. In April, the two organizations launched the Book Bus, a full-service literacy bus that travels throughout Charlotte year-round to encourage reading and distribute books to area youth.
“Lowe’s is committed to improving schools and enhancing learning opportunities for students in Charlotte and across the country,” said Joan Higginbotham, Lowe’s director of community relations. “We look forward to continuing to team with the Bobcats to promote academic achievement and support our educational community.”
Charlotte-area public schools and all 501(c)(3) organizations that support public education in Mecklenburg County are eligible to apply for a grant at www.nba.com/bobcats/grantapplication. The application period will run until Sept. 27, after which the proposals will be evaluated by a review panel established by Bobcats Sports & Entertainment and Lowe’s. Grant recipients will be announced during the Bobcats’ first home game on Nov. 1.
