Taylor Finds Zeller for Dunk

Taylor's Big Dunk
Former UConn Husky Jerome Dyson put up 21 points and nine assists to lead the Cats to a 92-84 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. It was the third-straight win for the Bobcats as they advanced to the next round in the second phase of the NBA Summer League. Cody Zeller and Jeffery Taylor both added 18 points to help bring Charlotte out on top.

The Cats were riding down easy street for most of the first half, with Jeffrey Taylor setting the pace with 12 points in the first quarter as Charlotte built a 32-17 lead at the end of the frame. Taylor finished with 16 first half-points as the Cats increased their lead over the Grizzlies to 53-34 at the break… After shooting 60.5 percent from the field in the first half, the Cats hit a road block in the third quarter, connecting on just 25.0 percent of their shots and allowing Memphis to cut the lead to three points… The Grizzlies kept things close in the fourth before Jerome Dyson took over for Charlotte. He shook things up by scoring nine points in the final three minutes of the game to help Charlotte cap off the night with a W.

The Bobcats played an impressive game from the floor, outshooting the Grizzlies 55.4 percent to 39.7 percent from the field and 46.2 percent to 33.3 percent from 3-point range. Charlotte dominated the first quarter, shooting 73.7 percent to Memphis’ 25.0 percent, and followed up with an impressive second quarter as well, shooting 60.5 percent for the first half… Teamwork was another asset in the Cats effort for the night, with 23 assists to the Grizzlies 17… The Grizzlies almost ruined Charlotte’s first-half efforts and took the lead with 4:56 left to play, but Dyson’s heroics allowed the Cats to claw their way back on top.

Jerome Dyson was one assist away from logging a double-double (21 points, nine assists) while shooting an incredible 100 percent (7-for-7) from the field and 66.6 percent from the free throw line (6-for-9). He added three defensive rebounds, one steal and ended the night drawing no personal fouls.

Cody Zeller came up one rebound shy of bringing in his third-straight double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds on the night. Along with shooting 50.0 percent (9-for-18) from the field, Zeller added two assists and one blocked.

Vander Blue came off the Memphis bench to lead the team in scoring with 24 points. He also grabbed three rebounds, swiped two steals and had an assist.

Jeffery Taylor played an integral role in the Cats victory, putting up 18 points, to go with three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Taylor set the pace during the first half scoring 16 of his 18 points in the first 20 minutes… Patrick Ewing Jr. got his first start of the Summer League and nearly finished with a double-double (10 points, eight rebounds). He started in place of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, whom the Cats opted to rest… Head Coach Steve Clifford has said he might shorten MKG’s, Taylor’s, Bismack Biyombo’s and Cody Zeller’s minutes as Summer League comes to a close. Biyombo finished with six points and two rebounds in 15 minutes of play.

The Cats will next take on the D-League Select team at 8 p.m. ET on July 20 at the Thomas & Mack Center in the quarterfinals of the NBA Summer League.
