Nuggets Cruise to Win Over Hornets

The Denver Nuggets outscored the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets 32-20 in the second quarter en route to a 99-80 victory. The Hornets had a one point advantage (23-22) after the first quarter before the Nuggets took control in the second quarter.
Yokhouba Diawara paced four Nuggets in double figures with 19 points (6-10 FG), while John Gilchrist added 16 points (6-7 FG) and six rebounds. Ralphie Holmes chipped in 15 points (5-8 FG) and Casey Jacobsen had 10 points (3-10 FG).
Marcus Fizer led the way for the Hornets, scoring 13 points (4-15 FG, 5-8 FT) in 27 minutes of play. Kirk Snyder (2-8 FG, 7-10 FT) and Ezra Williams (5-5 FG) had 11 points a piece, while Omar Cook (5-7 FG) and Cedric Simmons (4-7 FG) added 10 points each.
Denver finished the game shooting 45 percent (32-71 FG), while New Orleans/Oklahoma City finished at the same clip (29-64 FG). The Nuggets had a 47-33 advantage on the boards and had nine more points on the free throw line (29-20).
The Nuggets take on the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday at 2 p.m., while the Hornets battle the Washington Wizards Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
News and Notes: Hornets rookie big man Hilton Armstrong did not play in the game due to a left groin sprain, he is listed as day-to-day. Nuggets players Kenyon Martin and DerMarr Johnson sat courtside during the game, while former University of Oklahoma Head Coach and current Indiana University Head Coach Kelvin Sampson sat with Hornet coaches’ Byron Scott and Darrell Walker.
