Hornets.com caught up with Sacramento Kings guard Bobby Jackson prior to Wednesday’s game at the New Orleans Arena. Jackson is a former member of the Hornets, playing for New Orleans for 1 1/2 seasons prior to his February 2008 trade to Houston. The Rockets dealt him to the Kings this summer in the Ron Artest trade:
Hornets.com: How nice was it for you to be back in New Orleans, getting to see some of your former teammates tonight?
Jackson: It’s been good. I talked to CP (Chris Paul) for a little while, Bop (Rasual Butler) and Tyson (Chandler). It’s good to see the old guys and Coach (Scott), and interact with the guys, have fun and talk about what’s been going on in their lives.
Hornets.com: What’s it been like to be back in Sacramento, where you experienced a lot of success early in your career?
Jackson: It’s always good to be back home and be in a place where you have a (home). We’re not playing the way we want to right now, but things are still looking up for us. We’re just trying to make the best of it, and I’m trying to make the best of it.
Hornets.com: Your contract expires after this season. Are you still year-to-year? How many more seasons do you think you can play?
Jackson: I feel like I’ve still got a couple more years left and I still want to play. My body feels good, and that’s the most important thing for me. I’m going to (base the decision) on how my body feels. If I’m hurting, at the end of the season I might hang it up. But for right now, I feel good. Everything is working well, so I feel like I can play a couple more years.
Hornets.com: Do you have any intentions of going into coaching or staying in basketball when your playing career ends?
Jackson: Right now, I’m more focused on basketball, but I would love to become a coach. I’ve played it for so long, that I think I can add a lot. I’ve seen a lot and I’ve played both sides (offense and defense).
People have mentioned (coaching) to me because they see how I interact with the guys, how I notice things and matchups. I study the game and know guys’ strong points and weak points, just from watching the first 10 minutes of a game. That’s something that I hope could pay off in coaching.
Hornets.com: Chris Paul was one of your closest friends on the Hornets when you were here. What did you think of his record-setting 20-10 streak to open this season?
Jackson: Unbelievable. The guy is an unbelievable player. He’s done so much for this team, offensively and defensively. He’s one of the few guys who can do that every night. He’s blessed with so much ability. He wants to be the best player he can be every time he steps on the floor.
Hornets.com: What would you say to Hornets fans now, especially after you had kind of an abrupt exit from New Orleans due to the trade?
Jackson: This city has been wonderful to me. The organization has been wonderful to me. The teammates I played with here were wonderful. I would let people know that I miss both the organization and the city.
