Hornets.com chatted with Pistons guard Chauncey Billups following Wednesday’s game. The All-Star guard has helped spark Detroit to a Central Division-leading 13-6 record.

Hornets.com: You guys have been consistent for several years now, what do you attribute that to?
Billups: We’ve been able to keep our nucleus together; everybody has one common goal which is to win ballgames, not anything personal, no accolades and playing as a team.

Hornets.com: You guys seem to be clicking right now. Coming off a disappointing loss to the Cavs in the playoffs last year, have you guys used that as motivation?
Billups: Yeah, no doubt about it. At the end of the season, there is only one team that’s satisfied with how their season went, while being crowned as the champions. We haven’t been that team for a few years now. Winning championships is what we use as motivation each year, God willing we have health on our side and put ourselves in a position to bring the title back to Detroit.

Hornets.com: What are your thoughts on some of the young players on your roster?
Billups: I’m excited about what we have. They have all brought a lot of energy and have earned increased roles on this team. Jason Maxiell has been playing really well, the addition of Jarvis Hayes, along with the rookie class that we brought in are all contributing to what should be a real bright future for Pistons fans.

Hornets.com: What are your thoughts on Hornets point guard Chris Paul?
Billups: He’s a great talent, makes all of his teammates better. He’s a great guy on and off the court. If he can keep building on the foundation that he’s already set for himself, he’ll be one of the best for years to come.

Hornets.com: The Hornets have gotten off to a really good start this season. Any thoughts on their team and their future?
Billups: They’ve got a nice team. With guys like Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler they should continue to be a tough team to beat.
