Hornets.com caught up with Cavaliers 13th-year veteran guard Eric Snow in a recent interview. Fellow Ohio native Lindsey Wyckoff asked Snow about the city of New Orleans, his foundation and the Buckeye State:
Hornets.com: Do you remember where you were when you heard about Hurricane Katrina?
Snow: I was in Atlanta and I followed the coverage of the hurricane. We haven’t been able to really explore the city (since we’ve been here) since our plane was delayed, but we like coming (to New Orleans). I was happy to see that the people are still warm and really receptive. Things here are picking up – lots of traffic here because of the bowl games and I was happy to see that.
Hornets.com: You’ve been in the league for a while and have made a few trips to New Orleans. What are some of your favorite things about the city?
Snow: The food is great. It has a homey feel. It’s one of those places you can visit and you still feel like you’re at home. There is a warm reception and spirit from the people here.
Hornets.com: Being a Canton, Ohio native, you get the chance to play close to your hometown. How has that experience been for you?
Snow: It’s great. I get to go home and see my family. My parents get to see my kids a lot and that’s all rewarding. At the same time, you get to contribute to the place and area where you grew up. I get to play for the ‘hometown’ team and help that team try and win a championship.
Hornets.com: Like Tyson Chandler has his Rebound for Rebound community initiative, you have Shoot for the Moon. Can you talk about that foundation a little bit?
Snow: It’s an initiative that stresses fatherhood and family awareness. We have several different initiatives – father-son and father-daughter nights at home games, several events around the holidays, camps and a few other things that we do. It just stresses the importance of fatherhood and for fathers to reach out to their kids and spend time with them.
Hornets.com: A lot of people assume that Ohio is filled with cornfields. What are some of the places and events you like to go to in the Northeastern area of the state where you live?
Snow: The Football Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are both great places. I love having the four seasons. Right now, everyone needs to keep cheering on the Cavs and the Browns until Indians season starts.
