Hornet Henry Hits Radio Airwaves
That’s right, my fellow Hornets aficionados. Do not adjust your computer monitors at home. The headline you just read above is NOT a misprint, ladies and gents.
Yours truly, Hornet Henry, has branched out into another communications medium. Having already made an indelible mark in cyberspace through Hornets.com, I’ve now decided to take my game to the radio airwaves. Each Thursday you can hear my commentary by tuning in to “Hornets Insider,” a 60-minute show that airs at 4 p.m. in Oklahoma City on KEBC (1340 AM). The program also airs at 7 p.m. in New Orleans on WODT (1280 AM). Hornets radio play-by-play announcer Sean Kelley serves as the host, guru and all-around good guy of the weekly show. Mrs. Hornet Henry has often told me that I have a face made for radio, so this new endeavor should suit me perfectly (although she also says I have a voice made for mime…). I look forward to providing my unabashed, no-holds-barred views on the Hornets in this forum. Just think of me as the Andy Rooney of the Hornets – but infinitely more “old school” than the 60 Minutes curmudgeon. As a service to my favorite people in the world, you the Hornets.com readers, I’ve decided to include the transcripts from my first two radio appearances on KEBC and WODT. Enjoy: Nov. 9, 2006 Hello Hornets fans. This is Hornet Henry, Hornets.com’s outspoken, yet amiable, fan columnist. You can check out my articles on the official website of the Hornets. Before I proceed, I would like to graciously thank this radio station for allowing me to speak to you today and make my audio debut. My only regret is that due to the visual limitations of radio, you the kind listener are unable to get a feel for the caliber of classically-handsome good looks I bring to the table on a daily basis. But I digress. Hey, how about the Hornets’ great start to the season? Sure, we’re only one week into the NBA schedule, but I can’t help but start thinking about the possibilities of an 82-0 season. Apparently no team has ever compiled a perfect record in the 60 years that the NBA has been in existence, but I feel as though there’s no time like the present to end that pesky little streak. You gotta believe, right? I’m thoroughly looking forward to the Hornets’ West Coast road trip that begins tonight at Golden State. Tune in to the pregame “Hornets Tonight” radio show at 9 p.m. – and that’s a Hornet Henry ORDER! I fully expect our boys to return next week still sporting an unblemished won-loss record after dispatching the Warriors, Blazers and Clippers. By the way, this is a Hornet Henry exclusive: My sources tell me that the reason Byron Scott scheduled the Hornets to play on the road for most of preseason was so that they could become more familiar with Pacific Standard Time, and thereby completely prepared for this three-game West Coast trek. What can you say about Coach Scott? The man thinks of everything. The man is downright diabolical! The next two nights feature Hornets road tilts that begin after 9 p.m. Central time and therefore may conclude in the neighborhood of midnight, but as Hornets fans, we shouldn’t need any stimulants to stay up and listen to these ballgames. This team is undefeated, for crying out loud! Leave the performance-enhancers to those pro baseball types, gang. Well, that should do it for my radio debut. Make sure you listen to Sean Kelley and Gerry V call the action from Oakland, California this evening, and visit Hornets.com for brilliant prose and unbiased insight on the Hornets from yours truly, Hornet Henry. Nov. 16, 2006 Hello Hornets fans! How are you doing out there in radio land? This is Hornet Henry, Hornets.com’s opinionated, yet affable, fan columnist. You can read my potentially-award-winning articles on the official website of the NBA’s greatest team. Maybe it was because I was fighting off a nasty cold and, as a result, perhaps slightly delusional, but it looks like I may have gotten a little ahead of myself last week when I started speculating about a potential 82-0 Hornets season. It appears as though we ran into a little bit of a roadblock last weekend when the boys headed out to the West Coast for a three-game trek. Hey, can someone explain to me how the Hornets could build a 27-point lead in a game and still lose? Somebody get on the horn with Oliver Stone, because I can’t imagine how that happens without some kind of elaborate conspiracy or underhanded, shady chicanery in the Portland Trail Blazers’ home arena. Not to fear, though, my fellow Hornets aficionados, because the Hornets bounced back with a bludgeoning of the Bobcats. Thankfully, the fellas were able to restore order to what had been a nightmarish weekend in Hornet Henry’s world… I don’t know about you, but when the Hornets go on a losing streak of three games or more, I am generally unable to eat, sleep or speak. The latter of those three issues would have been especially problematic, given my scheduled radio appearance today. But Hornet Henry is a gamer, and you just KNOW I wasn’t gonna miss this. The boys only play one game over the next five nights, meaning you have absolutely no legitimate reason not to listen to the Hornets’ Saturday game at Minnesota on the Hornets Radio Network. Tune in to the pregame “Hornets Warmup” show at 6:30 p.m., to listen to the wit and wisdom of Sean Kelley and Gerry V, live from frigid Minneapolis. It’s time for the Hornets to get back to the early success they experienced on the road. Well, that should do it for this week. Make sure to visit Hornets.com on the double to read unparalleled Hornets insight and objective commentary from the Hornets’ premier fan columnist, Hornet Henry. Until next time, go Hornets! Send an e-mail to Hornet Henry at hornethenry@hornets.com. Hornet Henry’s next appearance on “Hornets Insider” is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30. |
