PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The NBA announced today that New Orleans Hornets power forward David West was selected the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Feb. 23 through Sunday, Mar. 1. It marks West’s first time to win the honor and the fourth time a Hornet has won the award this season (Chris Paul-three times).
“I am thankful for this honor in a conference with so many great players” said West. “We are playing good basketball right now and are looking forward to finishing the season strong as head towards the playoffs.”
West led the Hornets to a 4-0 week, averaging 28.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks. West collected three double-doubles during the week and had two games of at least 30 points and 10 rebounds. The power forward has secured double-doubles in six of the last eight games.
The two-time All-Star collected 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks in a 112-105 road win in Sacramento on Feb. 23. Two nights later, he helped the Hornets secure a home win over Detroit with 30 points and 10 rebounds. West had 28 points, 12 rebounds and two steals in a 95-94 win over Milwaukee on Feb. 27. On Mar. 1, West propelled the Hornets to a 99-96 win at New Jersey with 32 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
