BYRON SCOTT NAMED WESTERN
CONFERENCE COACH OF THE MONTH

Scott wins award for second time with Hornets

January 2, 2008

The NBA announced today that Hornets head coach Byron Scott has been named the December Western Coach of the Month. This is Scott’s second time to win the honor as coach of the Hornets (fourth time overall in his coaching career), equaling Paul Silas as the only coaches to win the award twice in franchise history.

"It is any honor to receive the award, like I have said before, it would not be possible without my assistant coaches and the players," Scott said. "I look forward to the coming months and seeing this team continue to develop."

With three winning streaks of three games or more in the month, New Orleans ascended to the top of the Southwest Division and owns the Western Conference’s second best record (19-9).

During the month of December the Hornets defeated opponents by an average of 10.2 points with key wins over Houston, Phoenix and San Antonio. The Hornets limited all but two of their opponents in December to 95 or fewer points. New Orleans went 3-0 against Southwest Division opponents in December and also finished 6-1 against Western Conference opponents.

Overall, they have won 14 of their last 18 games, including seven of the last 10. The Hornets have not had a .500 or less record month since March of 2007 (4-6).
