HORNETS WIN TWO OF THREE REGULAR SEASON MEETINGS
Last second heroics by Stacey Augmon helped propel the Hornets to wins in two of three regular season meetings between the Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers. Jamal Mashburn led they way for the Hornets with 27.3 points per game. Baron Davis averaged 18.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game and Jamaal Magloire averaged a double-double with 12.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per contest. Allen Iverson led the way for the Sixers with 32.3 point and 7.0 assists over the three meetings. The Hornets outrebounded the Sixers 41.7 to 38.0 per game over the three game series. The Sixers held the edge in free-throw shooting (81.5 percent) over the Hornets (71.8 percent) and committed fewer turnovers (13.0 per game) than the Hornets did (18.7 per game). Overall, the Hornets and Sixers have spilt their last eight games, dating back to February of 2001.


Jamal Mashburn averaged 27.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists against the 76ers this season.

The Hornets improved to 7-0 at home and 8-3 overall thanks to a David Wesley rebound and put back as time expired. Wesley rebounded a Jamal Mashburn missed 10-foot baseline jumper and hit a straight-away eight-footer to give New Orleans the win. The Hornets scored a season-high 38 points in the first quarter, doubling Philadelphia's output. The 76ers clawed their way back in the game over the next two quarters, and took a 76-75 lead with 10:42 of the fourth quarter. The game had 12 lead changes in the fourth quarter and two ties. Jamal Mashburn scored 37 points, his career-high as a Hornet, while Jamaal Magloire registered career-highs of 17 rebounds and seven blocks.

The 76ers jumped out to a 13-point lead in the opening quarter after hitting .565 percent (13-23) of their field goals, as Philadelphia improved to 8-0 at home. Allen Iverson scored 12 points in the first frame, on his way to 18 points by halftime, with the 76ers leading by nine, the Hornets trimmed the lead to seven (78-71) early in the fourth quarter, only to see the 76ers put together a 12-0 run, including two three-pointers from Aaron McKie to take a 90-71 advantage. Philadelphia had six players score in double figures, led by Iverson's 29 points.

The Hornets saw Allen Iverson score 22 points in the first half, including a three-pointer with :03 in the second quarter, giving the Sixers a 53-41 edge heading into the intermission...Jamal Mashburn scored nine points in the third quarter, as the Hornets shot .611 (11-18) from the field, compared to .333 (6-18) for the 76ers....New Orleans held on for the win in large part due to Stacey Augmon, who recorded eight points and two assists in the fourth quarter, as the Hornets outscored Philadelphia 27-18 in the final stanza...After missing three consecutive games due to injuries, P.J. Brown had two points and 10 rebounds, while Baron Davis had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assits for the Hornets.
