On tonight’s performance: “I’m really happy the guys were able to get a win tonight. It was a tight game throughout until the fourth quarter. I thought we were struggling, particularly in the first half. We did get it going with two 31-point quarters in the third and fourth quarters. That was really a big help for us. The key was we didn’t get frustrated when it wasn’t going for us. Eventually, it turned. That’s what we essentially say as coaches – to just keep at it until the situation turns for our favor.” On Darren Collison’s playing time: “Darren Collison has an unlimited source of energy. He eventually got it going in the third quarter. I didn’t think he had used up his energy in the first half and we just let him go tonight. We have tomorrow off so he’ll be fine.”
On the Hornets’ key to putting the Clippers away: “This team has been doing this the whole year. This team never gets frustrated; we always help each other and pick each other up. That’s the mark of a good team. We just locked in and came alive in the second half. We hit some big shots, I got myself going and everybody locked in.”
On the key to their big third quarter: “I didn’t ask for all these minutes but these opportunities don’t come too fast so I’m going to take it. CP [Chris Paul] got into my ear and pretty much yelled at me. He told me to be aggressive and I just started being more aggressive.” On playing against Baron Davis: “It’s always fun going up against Baron Davis. That’s a guy I really look up to ever since I was little because he’s a local kid. You always look for those matchups playing against a guy from UCLA too.”
On the fourth quarter performance: “We got some stops and some rebounds. We got some run-outs and points in transition. Darius Songalia hit some big shots for us tonight. On the play of Clippers: “Tonight was a close game. I thought our energy was great in the first half. I liked the way we competed. We had plenty of defensive mistakes in the pick and roll. I did not think our energy was good enough when defending their jump shots. I definitely thought we had done a good job defending their defense the first half.” On the play of Chris Kaman: “Chris [Kaman] did not have a great game. We struggled with his inability to make shots. He got frustrated and it carried over to his individual defense. His rotation and rebounding was lacking and his play was a little slow.” On the energy of Baron Davis: “Baron Davis played with really good energy tonight. I think Baron led the team in making the right plays. Baron [Davis] tried to make a difference in the game and have his teammates follow through, but we fell short.”
On his attitude toward rest of season: “I have been trying to go to the gym and the arena and really play hard. It is a blessing to be able to play in the NBA and wear this jersey. We all just want to win. I try to play as hard as I possibly can and build for next year.” On the play of Clippers: “We constantly want to improve. I thought that we had a real good chance to win tonight. We try to motivate each other to play harder. We stay as positive as we can and we know if we stay focused we can get some wins.” |
