Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Jeff Bower
On the game:
“It was just an outstanding finish to the game. I’m really proud of our team, how they fought and turned a difficult game into a victory. What I was most proud about was the fact that we didn’t give up on the game when we were behind and things weren’t going our way and then weren’t coming at us. We were struggling tremendously on penetration and points in the paint and hung in there and got it turned around. It was a great win against a great team.”

On the end of the game:
“I think Orlando drove us with the spread of the three-point shooters. Tonight when we finally got back into the game we made the plays and decided the game with three minutes left. Looking back at Cleveland we took them into the three minute mark and they made the plays. I was proud tonight that we didn’t give up on the game earlier so we had a chance to make those plays. We could learn from this game a lot.”

Hornets Guard Darren Collison
On the game:
“In the first half, we didn’t have the energy we needed to come out and win the ball game. Our best offense is our defense, and when we start picking up our defense, with guys rotating, we start closing in on the three point shooters on the other team, and got us going. The Magic are very elite, they’re very, very good. They had us down by 18, which shows how good they are. They’ve got a great player in Dwight Howard, but I’m real proud of our effort. The best thing about this team is that we come together as a team, and we find ways to win ballgames.”

On his playing time:
“I’m just trying to win. Regardless of how much time I’m playing, I’m just trying to win. Unless I’m tired, I’ve got to gut it out right now. This is not the part of the season where you can just relax. Everybody’s going to try to play their hardest and try to play their best basketball game of the season.”

Hornets Center Aaron Gray
On defending Dwight Howard:
“I hope he was getting worn down; I know I was. I figured if I tired him down just a little bit, that would be to our advantage. So I put my body on him, tried to be as physical as possible, and was just trying to keep him off the glass. Any game where I know there is a good big man, and it’s possible for me to get a few minutes, I want to play.”

On getting open looks on offense:
“When we work together and screen for our shooters and also our point guard so he can get in there and create. Once we did that, it’s tough because we have different options on offense. Screening and getting our guys open is very important.”

Magic Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Stan Van Gundy
On the game:
“We looked for opportunities to relax, lose focus and let down, and we deserved to lose. We’ve gotten to the point where Dwight can’t merely be good or very good. He has to be absolutely dominant for us to win. It was mainly on the offensive end. They had 19 second chance points and we had 18 turnovers; just careless. It was awful basketball, and we deserved to lose. Hopefully, we learned something from it. ”

Magic Guard Jameer Nelson
On if the team relaxed in the second half:
“I don’t think we were relaxing. We’re still out there playing hard. We have to do a better job of valuing the ball, that’s all.”

On the team learning from mistakes and trying to improve:
“We’ve got to move forward. We’ve got to learn our lesson quick.”

Magic Guard Vince Carter
On the game:
“It’s really tough because we played well enough to get the lead and do what we needed to do. Then, the same shots weren’t falling (later in the game). We had a lot of great looks inside and out. We couldn’t make a few of them (when we needed). We didn’t have to make them all, just a few of them.”
