| Wednesday, February 24, 2010 Final Score: Milwaukee 115, New Orleans 95 Hornets Post Game Quotes
On tonight’s game: “They (the Bucks) got off to a strong start with Bogut’s post-ups and offensive rebounds. Then their driving game really put us in a bad place. We never got a good handle on this game defensively from the start. We were really struggling to get stops, and at the same time we were really struggling to get offense. At the end of the first quarter, we were in decent shape as far as the score went, but the flow of the game wasn’t good at all for us. In the first half, the points in the paint, second chance points, free throws—that was too much to overcome on a night like this.” On the Bucks offense: “I give them a lot of credit for the way they played and the way they were able to execute offensively. I thought they moved the ball very crisply and always had us on our heels scrambling to recover as opposed to being in position early. They put us in those positions with their drives and their ball movement.”
On tonight’s game: “They were executing really well, you have to give them credit. They ran their plays with perfection. We were just too tired from the game last night, but there are no excuses. These are the games we have to come back and fight as a team. We should have been rallying more as a team, but it’s over now, so on to the next one. This is the NBA. You have to be able to bounce back, you have no choice. It’s important for us to regroup, for everyone to get their minds ready and think about what we have to do in order to win this next game and go out there and perform.” On Andrew Bogut: “He’s a very good player. He’s part of the key to their success lately. I’m pretty sure they’ve been winning a lot of games lately because of him. When he’s averaging more than 20 points, they win a lot of ball games. He was successful down in the paint and they ran their stuff with perfection.”
On the Bucks performance: “They did whatever they wanted to do. They had 72 points in the paint. That’s unacceptable for this team. There’s nothing we can do about it but shake this one off and come back Friday ready to play.” On the play of Andrew Bogut: “Bogut established himself early. He went straight to the basket early and that was the trend for the whole game. That was the game plan for them and it was played to perfection.” On the Bucks run in the third quarter: “They started hitting shots and we didn’t. We didn’t attack on defense this whole game and that’s something we have to get better at this season.” Bucks Post Game Quotes
On tonight’s game: “We had a very good first half offensively, and defensively we were almost stopping them, almost getting some loose balls. We were scrambling around, playing pretty hard; things just didn’t go our way. We got that rectified in the third quarter. We came out and our defensive intensity picked up noticeably. We stayed with the ball movement; we stayed with going inside and driving the ball and getting points in the paint. We were very good for long stretches in the game tonight.” On the first half: “In the first half, the guys were really doing a great job of just putting the ball on the deck and getting all the way to the rim. They (New Orleans) had a tough game last night. We went into Bogues (Andrew Bogut) and he had another big game. Only a few times did we get suckered into taking a couple questionable three’s, but for the most point, we were going in there and attacking the rim.” On the play of Andrew Bogut: “He’s having a very good year, there’s no doubt about that. As the year is going on, he’s getting better. There’s not a whole lot to complain about there. He’s obviously a big factor for us and on nights when he’s scoring the ball like that, it’s huge. It makes teams honor our perimeter guys much differently when they’ve got to worry about a guy down low doing some work. As you guys know, we go to him early and often and when he’s making those shots he’s very difficult to stop.”
On the Bucks .500 record for the first time since December: “It feels good, but your not satisfied with nothing right now. There’s still a long ways to go. It’s good to be back to .500, but I’m not satisfied at all.” On the play of the Bucks bench: “I think it helps a lot. We got three tough games coming up on the road, so we got to bring it just like we bring it when we’re at home. These games right here are going to be real important for us. When your bench can come in and contain the lead and do their part, that helps us out. That’s been helping us (the starters) sit out in the fourth quarter and get our rest.”
On the fourth quarter and tonight’s game: “I haven’t had one of those in a while. The bench did a great job of keeping that lead out to double digits and we finished the game off well. Shots were just falling for me. I got some offensive rebounds again, and when I start out games trying to hit the offensive boards and trying to get some easy baskets, it definitely helps the confidence and it happened again tonight.” On the Bucks .500 record for the first time since December: “We have to stay grounded, though. We’re at .500; it’s nothing to be proud about. We need to get better still as a team. We can’t think about teams that are playing in two or three games ahead and marking them down and saying ‘we could be this by the end of the month.’ We just need to focus on beating Indiana tomorrow and then after that game focusing on the next one. We can’t get cocky, because obviously you guys are going to be talking about playoffs and the fans are going to start to get more and more vocal. We just can’t fall into that trap.” |
