| Wednesday, February 17, 2010 Final Score: Utah 98, New Orleans 90 Hornets Post Game Quotes
On how Utah played: "I thought Utah played well, especially in the second half… I thought we had opportunities to stretch the game a little bit more earlier in the game, it would have been important. We had some turnovers in the first half, but it didn't turn into enough points for us. I think eventually we're going to start playing better." On the fouls: "The early fouls not only had an effect on the rhythm of the game, but also had a big affect on David West involvement first half. The fouls factored in as far as our offense and point reduction. I thought we handled it pretty well in the first half…the way we started the third quarter from the defensive standpoint was difficult for Jazz to score too many points, we had much better resistance." On Utah being a tough team to beat: "Watching Utah, they are difficult to defend…you have to be ready to defend them on every play. We try to deal with their action, but we need to work on our ability to defend and rebound…that's what this season is all about. We gave up six rebounds, but I thought we made a nice recovery. All in all they played well for stretches, just not enough to beat Jazz. I understand why they're 15-2."
On the turning point in the game: "I think it was in the 3rd quarter when Deron Williams got it going and I take responsibility for that. They got a little bit of a gap and you have to give their team credit. They set screens really well and they executed really well. I think that's what hurt us the most, they have the ball steady moving on offense. I'm pretty sure they shot a high percentage of their numbers in the paint" On having difficulty with teams that move the ball well: "I don't know if you can say that because that's the first time that I have seen a team really screen and execute the way they did. The way the play, with back door screens and cross screens cuts, you have to give Jerry Sloan credit because they really are committed to that."
On his nagging injuries: "There are certain things that come with playing the game of basketball. Having injuries, having rolled ankles and stuff like that, once again it's just a part of the game, it's what you signed on for." Jazz Post Game Quotes
On winning on the road against an aggressive Hornets team: "They (the Hornets) hung in there all night long. They made us turn the ball over. We turned the ball over an amazing number of times here at this stage of the season. You wonder how you can win a ball game when you have this many turnovers. I think you have to give them a lot of credit. They really got after us and made us work for whatever we got." On Paul Millsap's play tonight: "Paul has played extremely well all year, obviously. He has helped us stay in there a great deal. He worked a lot on his outside shooting. He's always been good around the basket and has been able to shoot the ball out on the floor and worked hard to try and make himself better. That's what we always liked about him. He came in and started working right off of the bat."
On the win: "It was a good win, considering the amount of points they got off of turnovers. It was something that Coach told us throughout the game that we all have to protect the ball. Turnovers really hurt us tonight, just looking at the stat sheet our 54% to their 38% (from the field), but the turnovers kept the game close for them." |
