| Wednesday, February 10, 2010 Final Score: New Orleans 93, Boston 85 Hornets Post Game Quotes
On the game: “The defense in the third and fourth quarter put us in the position for us to win. We held them to a 30 point half which is outstanding and takes a lot of work. We did open up the floor with some transition opportunities and a lot of stops and steals which helped us a bunch. We also did a very good job of moving the ball as well which I was very pleased with.” On the team’s turnovers: “The turnovers made everything really difficult for us. Not only were we not getting shot attempts but it was putting us in a hole trying to guard them as well, which is a talent of Pierce and Rondo. It hurt us pretty bad in the second quarter and we were trying to move guys around to counter that.” On the first half: “We didn’t feel like we played well in the 1st half. We didn’t feel like the things that we were doing wrong were things that we couldn’t correct. We can play better defense, felt like we can take care of the ball better and we felt like if we did those things then the game would turn and we could put us in a position to win. We did a nice job tonight making plays to keep a little separation in the game.”
On Chris Paul’s leadership: “He yelled at me even after a win, but it just shows how much he cares. Whatever he carries to us we try to present on the court. I was trying to be comfortable and manage the game like he does. He told me to just lay it up. At the end of the day you want to get the two points and not be in the locker room mad that we lost.” On facing Rajon Rondo: “It was tough on both ends. I turned the ball over myself, I don’t know how many turnovers I had but I was mad at myself for giving away those possessions. All and all I’m just glad we got the win.”
On the third quarter turn around: “I’m not surprised, not this season. The first couple of quarters we came out slow, and got behind 12, 14, 17 points. We just came out in the third quarter and turned it around.” On the fourth quarter: “I thought we did a good job finding the open jump shots. We ran the pick and roll well tonight. It felt good, especially in the fourth quarter. We hustled and got a lot of loose balls. I’m sure it wasn’t pretty but we grinding it out and did what we had to do” Celtics Post Game Quotes
On winning on the road: “We played well in the first half. But they (the Hornets) came out hard and we didn’t get back on defense early on in the 3rd quarter. We just have to get better. In the 1st half we gave great effort and had a good lead going into halftime. Third quarter we came out with a lot of jump shots and dribbling which lead to a lot of turnovers, then we missed seven free throws straight. It’s tough to win games when you turn the ball over and miss free throws.” On the team’s defense: “Our defense was also horrible in the 3rd quarter, but phenomenal in the 4th, but we didn’t score enough to take the game back. You can’t turn on a team then expect to turn them off.” On his players: “Our starters struggled today, but our bench gave us several big plays. Kevin (Garnett) struggled in the 2nd half and Paul (Pierce) forced too much, due to the struggling of the team.”
On the loss and last few games: “It was just a disappointing loss. Pretty much the last part of this first half (of the season has been that way). I think everybody needs to go back and regroup. It is a much needed break for sure. We just need to go get our mental (mindset) right. We just have to learn to put 48 minutes together. We just need to find a way to get over (our current struggles). Right now, it’s just a needed break. These last few games have been our first time without a full team, so it’s hard to say (if we will struggle after the break). We just have to learn to put guys in the right spot and put it all together. I think we’ll be okay.”
On the role of the bench: “We just have to put together a full 48 minute game. We just want to come in with energy and just try to pick the team up. We just want to pick up defensively and get things going for us.” On his play: “I’m still trying to get into my rhythm. I’m still a little rusty out there. I’m missing some plays. There are still a couple of things that I have to get better at.” |
