On tonight’s game: “We made some very big shots down the stretch. We made some good stops. It was a victory that we had to earn but I think our guys did a great job competing together.” On the team’s play: “David West continues to play outstanding basketball. We got big plays out of (James) Posey off the bench; big plays out of Mo Pete (Morris Peterson) off the bench. It was a great victory that we needed. Now we have to get ready to play Orlando on Monday night.” On the differences between the first and second halves: “I felt the biggest difference in the second half is we finally got to the foul line. We talked about that at halftime; we needed to get to get to the line, we needed to force the action on them. And I think that was really a big part in the second half.” On coming back in the third quarter: “Coming back is something that we’ve done a lot of. The key tonight was when it tightened up, we were able to continue to make the right plays at the right time. We had a little bit of a cushion to work with so when they did score it wasn’t quite as close. The guys hung together and played with poise.“
On the game: “We didn’t allow them (the Bobcats) to come out and get a good rhythm by swinging the ball around from side to side like they like to do. We came out in the third quarter and really attacked them at the rim and we were able to make plays down the stretch to come out with the win.” On the second half: “We came out really aggressive. We were able to finish the third quarter with a lead and we really carried that momentum throughout the rest of the game.” On their fourth-quarter run: “Morris Peterson hit a couple of threes in that stretch to put us up by six. From there, we kept making plays defensively and we were able to convert on the offensive end.”
On the game: “I think the moral of the whole story is our defense. We really stepped up and committed to protecting the lead at the end and it gave us easy buckets on the offensive end. We got a couple of lay-ups in transition. When you get easy baskets, it gets everyone going and it gives you momentum. We executed well on the offensive end, but none of it would have happened if we didn’t play defense.” On ending a three-game losing streak: “We needed this win badly. I felt that we were so close the last three games at home and we needed to come back and get a victory tonight. On tonight’s game: “We just looked like we had tired legs. Raymond Felton and Stephen Jackson executed and made shots in the third quarter, they played great. In the fourth quarter, they (the Hornets) made some tough shots and we missed some key free throws. When you’re coming from behind you have to play perfect.” On the team: “It just shows you how far away we really are. There’s a difference between being good and hoping to be good. The only way to be good is to execute every game, every possession, every practice, and we just didn’t do that tonight.”
On the Hornets play in the second half: “They had a lot of guys that stepped up. Darren Collison had a great game tonight. He ran the team well, he hit big shots when he needed to and made plays when he needed to. They had a lot of other guys who hit big shots; they hit a lot of shots when you didn’t think they were going to make it. When a team is missing a player like Chris (Paul), everybody steps up. If you don’t bring your A-game and be ready to play, you can easily lose the game, and that’s what happened tonight.” On the team’s outlook going forward: “We just have to clear our heads, then come back on Monday and get back to work so we can (win) these last two games before the All-Star break.”
On the second half: “There wasn’t any energy. Everybody’s got to bring it every night for us to win; we can’t take nights off. We’ve got to compete. Winners win for a reason. (When) you play basketball, you compete every night. We have to come out and play hard every night and respect the game.” |
