| Friday, February 5, 2010 Final Score: Philadelphia 101, New Orleans 94 Hornets Post Game Quotes
On the game: “It was just another unfortunate loss. I think we played hard out again out there. It’s just frustrating not getting points for the effort you put in. Everyone was trying to do their part tonight and it just didn’t end up adding up. Peja was very aggressive out there which was great, Posey had some good points in there too and things just weren’t able to come together. We are just gone focus on the next game ahead and playing hard.” On the absence of Marcus Thorton: “We are going day to day with Marcus. We are going to go into practice and assess how he’s doing and go from there. Of course we want him back as soon as possible but we feel that we can carry the load if he needs more time.”
On the game: “Defense needs to be picked up a little bit more, I can’t see what our problem is other than our defense. We need a sense of urgency in the beginning of the game and in our transition.” On team challenges without Chris Paul: “Maybe we have a lack of urgency; CP does a good job of getting guys ready. He’s always making sure everybody’s in tune for the game, talking to everybody so everybody’s alert so we definitely miss his presence.”
On starting the game: “I’ve been around the league for a while so it’s like riding a bike, I just have to be ready when I get out there on the floor no matter if I’m starting or coming off the bench.” On the game: “I thought we could have played with a little more sense of urgency. I thought at different times in the game we had a chance to make a run but just didn’t make that push.” Sixers Post Game Quotes
On winning on the road: “They come pretty hard. Winning in the NBA is very hard, but certainly to win three on somebody else’s court takes a lot of effort and harmony. And that’s what we had tonight.” On the bench play: “They’re feeling confident. They feel that their group is the group that should be up-tempo. I tell them I’m not calling plays, I just want you guys to run. Obviously when it slows down I have to do some play-calling, but that defense gets them out. They’re athletic with Thad (Young), Lou (Williams) and Rodney (Carney). It’s just a good mixture of guys coming off the bench knowing the tempo that we want and forcing the tempo that we want.” On Rodney Carney’s play: “He’s making it easier for us to go to the bench. I think it’s good. They have their roles. You come in and do your role, and the starters are going to come in and close the game out.” On the Hornets’ guard play: “They don’t have a real solid point guard. The main key was we had to keep ball pressure on them, whether Collison’s in the game, or especially when he’s out of the game. We knew that was the weakest part of what they had to do tonight.”
On the 76ers defense: “I don’t know if it was the pressing, it was more of the defensive stops. The pressing slowed them down from getting in their offense, we had a good group out there with me, Thaddeus Young, and Lou Williams. We clogged the lanes on defense, got rebounds, and got out in transition.” On coach Jordan’s game plan: “We proved in the second quarter we could get pressure on them and it carried into the second half. Coach did a great job with the game plan of getting stops and running, throw the ball out so we could get easy looks in transition.”
On the Hornets missing Chris Paul: “We just went out there and tried to get in the zone early, get up on there so they would have to push the ball up on offense. Their lead guy is out right now so we knew we had to take advantage of it. We’ve been known to be a pressure team to cause a lot of turnovers to get out on the break.” On the Sixers’ next game: “We definitely needed tonight’s game, and we need the next one. Houston’s a great team, and we’re going to try to go in there and do what we did in New Orleans, just try to outplay them. They have a lot of great guards and some big men that can put the ball in the hole.” |
