| Wednesday, January 20, 2010 Final Score: New Orleans 113, Memphis 111 Hornets Post Game Quotes
On the game: “It was quite a game, terrific plays made by some guys that are real competitors and that’s really what it took to win this game. I thought our overall ball movement in that first half was probably the best we’ve seen and it could have been very deflating for us the way the third quarter went, but our guys hung in there and played quite a fourth quarter.” On the beginning of the game: “I think its reflective on the final stats, the points in the paint, our free throw attempts, and our overall field goal percentage. I think those numbers all reflect the aggressive nature and a lot of that is coming out of what we were trying to do tonight.” On the 4th Quarter finish: “Well they have terrific offensive players, guys that can really make shots easily and Randolph was handful for us and we wanted to try and disrupt his rhythm a little bit. We went with some doubles in the middle part of the quarter and once we changed the matchup and put Posey on him that kind of changed how he was able to operate. Posey’s experience and the way he was able to maintain contact and control with him really was effective.”
On the final offensive basket to take the lead: “They just double teamed CP (Chris Paul) coming out. Peja just passed to me for the most part. I tried to get it back to CP. I knew the time was going down. (I was) just being aggressive. The guy just cut me off and I was able to go baseline and make a layup.” On trying to miss the free throw late in the game: “I did a terrible job of missing it and they were still able to get a rebound.” On the strong fourth quarter: “We had to match their energy. They came out and were aggressive in the third. We made plays when we needed to down the stretch.”
On the Grizzlies: “They’re a good team. Right now, they’re better than we are in terms of standings…When you’re dealing with a team that has all of those guys, Gay, Mayo, Randolph….these guys are really good basketball players that they’ve got over there.” On the win: “We made some plays down the stretch to close it out. Especially going out on the road, we just really wanted to make sure that we were able to go out there with a good (showing tonight).” Grizzlies Post Game Quotes
On the game: “Well, we just didn’t come out with very much energy, they came out and ran the court. They did a good job of taking away our inside early. As the game went on we played our game and got back in the lead, by defending them and then once we had the lead we made some uncharacteristic and careless errors. They not only came back, but they also got threes a couple of times, so it was just a bad ending on our part.” On the Hornets bench: “I don’t know the Hornets bench that well, I know they got guys that can play. James Posey has always been a good scorer, so I wasn’t surprised.”
On the end of the game: “We’re just not executing towards the end of the game. We’re turning the ball over, not getting back in transition. We just need to learn to put games away on the road. We just need to play better on the road. I don’t know what’s happening to us late in the game. We’ve just got to come out in the beginning of the game and put pressure on them early.” On the beginning of the fourth quarter: “We came out more focused together. We got defensive stops and we got back on transition.”
On the end of the game: “We made key turnovers. I made a key turnover. We can’t let that happen at that point in the game. We have to pull it out, take care of the ball and get the best shot possible. Sometimes you win; sometimes you lose. But it’s the way you lose. You’re up ten, we made the key turnover at the end and they just ran it at me and they took their shots.” |
