Hornets Announce New Stingers Team

The roster for the 2007-08 Stingers was chosen at New Orleans Arena on Sunday from nearly 150 candidates.

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Hornets hosted auditions for their junior hip-hop dance team, the Stingers, yesterday at the New Orleans Arena. Nearly 150 candidates competed for a place on the team, and judges narrowed the selection down to 24 talented dancers.

The Stinger hopefuls were numbered and organized in rows while Honeybees Manager and Choreographer Ashley Deaton, and members of the 2007-08 Honeybees dance team, taught a hip-hop routine to the candidates on the Arena floor.

Of the 24 dancers to make the squad, 15 come from the metropolitan New Orleans area, five from the Northshore, and four from as far away as Ascension Parish and Picayune, Mississippi.

Auditions were open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 12, who were energetic, had dance experience and were interested in performing at Hornets home games.
