The Result

Charlotte ended a 16-game losing streak to the Miami Heat with a statement win, holding off a surge down the stretch to notch the 96-89 victory on Nov. 5 at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Turning Points

After starting slow in the first four games of the season, the Hornets came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. Charlotte jumped out to a nine-point advantage in the first and lead by seven (24-17) after one. The Hornets continued to pile on in the second half, taking a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter. The lead swelled to as much as 15 before Miami made a late push that fell short. 

Inside the Box Score

Charlotte knocked down 35-of-82 shots (42.7 percent) from the field, while limiting the Heat to a 39 percent clip (30-of-77)… Led by Lance Stephenson (13 rebounds) and Al Jefferson (10), the Hornets cleaned up on the glass, winning the rebounding battle, 49-36… Jefferson tallied a double-double to pace the team, finishing with 28 points and 10 boards… Kemba Walker stuffed the sheet with 18 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals… Stephenson added eight points, 13 boards and four dimes… Marvin Williams connected on 3-of-6 shots for six points with five rebounds… Gerald Henderson finished with four points, three assists and three rebounds.

Hornets Player of the Game

Big Al Jefferson banged in the paint all night, finishing with a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards. Jefferson converted 13-of-25 shots from the floor.

Heat Player of the Game

Chris Bosh went blow-for-blow with Al Jefferson down low, recording a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Game Notes

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist sat out his second-straight game after injuring his ribs against New York on Nov. 2… Cody Zeller provided big minutes off the bench in the paint, finishing with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting with eight rebounds… P.J. Hairston added seven points, two rebounds and two assists… Gary Neal scored four points, grabbed three boards and dished out two assists… Jason Maxiell and Brian Roberts tallied four points apiece.
