The Result
Charlotte put together one of its best all-around performances of the season as it picked up a key road victory over the Nets, 115-91, on Wednesday, Mar. 4 in Brooklyn. All five Charlotte starters finished in double figures for the fourth-consecutive game as the Hornets notched their third-straight win after knocking off a Nets team they came into the night tied with for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Al Jefferson and Gerald Henderson led the Hornets with 19 points apiece while Deron Williams scored 12 points to lead the Nets.
Turning Points
This was one over quickly in Brooklyn after the Hornets opened the game shooting 65.2% (15-of-23) from the field as they surged to a 35-15 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Nets showed signs of life in the second quarter as they cut the deficit to 12 by halftime before Charlotte turned it back on in the third outscoring Brooklyn, 32-22, to put the game out of hand as the Hornets notched their first road win against the Nets in their last seven attempts.
Inside the Box Score
Gerald Henderson scored 19 points to finish in double figures for the fifth-straight game… Al Jefferson tallied 19 points, six rebounds and a team-high three steals… Michael Kidd-Gilchrist finished with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds for his fourth double-double in the last five games. Kidd-Gilchrist has now scored in double figures in a career-high seven consecutive games… Cody Zeller scored 13 points to finish in double figures for the fourth-consecutive game, which matches his career high… Marvin Williams finished just short of his season high with 18 points, all of which came in the first half… Mo Williams also finished in double figures with 14 points and notched a team-high 14 assists, nine of which came in the first quarter… Bismack Biyombo notched seven points and eight rebounds off the bench for Charlotte… Deron Williams (12), Mason Plumlee (11) and Bojan Bogdanovic (11) all finished in double figures for Brooklyn… Plumlee also led the Nets with seven rebounds… Williams dished out a team-high six assists… After shooting a season-best 16-of-23 from 3-point range in its first meeting this season with Charlotte on Dec. 13, Brooklyn connected on just 3-of-16 attempts from behind the arc tonight (18.8%)... The Hornets won the rebounding battle against the Nets, 49-38.
Hornets Player of the Game
Mo Williams had another spectacular outing for Charlotte finishing with 14 points and a Hornets-season-high 14 assists, which was one shy of his individual career best. Williams recorded his third-consecutive points/assists double-double, which is the 16th streak in franchise history of at least three games or more.
Nets Player of the Game
Deron Williams led the Nets with a team-high 12 points and six assists as the 10-year veteran finished right on his season averages. Williams has now scored in double figures in eight-consecutive games.
Game Notes
The Hornets snapped Brooklyn’s 10-game home winning streak during the month of March… Charlotte beat the Nets for just the third time in its last 14 attempts… With the season series tied at one game apiece, the Hornets and Nets will meet for the third and final time in Charlotte on March 25.
