Hornets second-year point guard Chris Paul is one of the club’s most well-liked players among his teammates, partly for his unselfish approach to basketball. When Paul dribbles up the court, he’s always looking to distribute the ball and find a Hornets player for an open shot.

On Friday afternoon, Paul delivered an assist of a different kind. In conjunction with the international hunger relief organization Feed The Children, Paul personally handed out 800 boxes of food and personal care items to New Orleans families. The 21-year-old greeted the event’s guests, took pictures with families and signed autographs for a large group of youngsters, in a parking lot adjacent to New Orleans Arena.

“This city has been through a lot in the past year and a half,” the 6-foot Wake Forest product explained. “I feel like this today is the least I can do."

“When you look into these people’s eyes, you just see strength. When I look at the challenges and struggles I’ve been through in my life, nothing compares to what they’ve dealt with.”

Paul’s first experience with the Feed the Children program came in summer 2005, when Dallas veteran Jerry Stackhouse hosted a similar event in Chapel Hill, N.C. Paul also assisted during retired NBA guard Kenny Smith’s program in New Orleans this summer.

“When I heard we were going to be in New Orleans for four or five days (this week), I thought this was a perfect opportunity to give back,” Paul said. “Especially during the holiday season.”
