The New Orleans Hornets hosted their annual Summer Hoops basketball clinics presented by adidas throughout the months of June and July for local children’s community groups. This year, these nine basketball clinics were closed to the general public, but still featured fundamental basketball instruction, interaction with Hornets personalities and giveaways for each invited participant.
“Restructuring our Summer Hoops Clinics this year allowed us to impact the lives of local children in the most need,” said Hornets Sr. Vice President of Community Investment Steve Martin. “We can bring the excitement of a free basketball clinic to young people who may not have the opportunity and provide them with life skills along the way. Adidas has been a great community partner, and we share the common goal with them to bring the love of the game to young people in New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.”
Clinics were held for members of Kingsley House, Dryades YMCA, St. Michael’s Special School, Boys and Girls Club, Harmony Oaks and Urban Strategies and several other partner organizations. Each clinic featured an appearance by Hugo, basketball drills including dribbling, shooting and passing, giveaways, contests and the opportunity to interact with other young people and practice healthy exercise habits.
