The Hornets MVP (Most Valuable Pupil) Program, presented by Chevron, provides students in the Recovery School District (grades 4th-8th) with incentives to encourage them to excel academically. Quarterly incentives include a Hornets cap and jersey. In January, the team hosts a field trip to a Hornets game including lunch, backpack and a t-shirt. Throughout the year, students can also participate in an essay and art contest in which the winners receive cash prizes. This past school year, 60% of the students increased their grade point average by at least 0.5.
